Heroes v Lost (The Battle of the Claires)

Dear The Makers of ‘Heroes’

Heroes is exciting, imaginative and fast-paced, with just the right amount of complexity. The cinematography is perfect; eye-catching, engaging, modern and sometimes unique. The writing is intelligent, witty and thought provoking.

The characters are well developed, likeable and realistic (apart from their superpowers obviously). Even when Niki turns into evil Jessica I still like her. Peter is caring, selfless and pleasingly understated (and cute). I even like Sylar; it’s not his fault he has some delusions of grandeur, it’s his mother’s. The sweet and funny Hiro is just a joy – optimism at its best! And best of all, there is Claire, a cute blonde in a cheerleading outfit – thank you for that.

Heroes leaves me wanting more. My heart pounds with excitement as another part of the truly magnificent plot unfolds before my eyes, and then as the words ‘to be continued’ appear on the screen, I am left fulfilled but hungry for more.

Thank you for making such a gripping TV show.

Best regards,
Lynsey

Dear The Makers of ‘Lost’

Lost could be exciting. It has shown potential to be imaginative but, as yet, there is no real proof that it actually is. The pace is too slow, and the plot is confusing and overly complex. The writing is pretentious.

The characters are developed painstakingly slowly. I hate Jack. And please understand that I do not ‘love to hate’ Jack – I just hate him. He’s a wanker. Kate is also a pain in the ass. She is an annoying tomboy who tediously tries to prove that she is as ‘good’ as the boys at everything (so 1990s). I don’t know what makes you think you can get away with giving Charlie a brother who has not only a southern English accent but a very bad ‘ye olde English’ southern accent. Charlie is from Manchester. Claire is cute but she’s no cheerleader.

Lost absolutely infuriates me. I only managed to get through the second series because I watched it all at once, and even that didn’t satisfy me. It leaves me wanting more but that’s only because it didn’t give me enough in the first place. I gasp in disbelief as the end credits come up because I can’t believe that’s all I’m going to get.

I will still watch Lost but you shouldn’t feel smug about that because I will watch it begrudgingly, constantly wondering if I am wasting my time. All I can say is that the end had better be good.

Regards,
Lynsey

I hate Jack too. One of the worst things about the current season is that I KNOW Jack is going to survive. I can still root for him to be decapitated after he gets off the island, though. I feel the same way about Kate as I do about Jack, but not quite so violently so.
